Problem Solving and Farms-5/05/08
- Calendar:
We are focusing on the days of the week, months of the year, and weekends and weekdays. We will work on tens and ones, graphing the weather, telling time, and recognizing money.
- Language Arts:
This week we will make our own farm book, talk about beginning, middle, and end, and write our own stories. We continue to do our daily journals and reading. Our words of the week is WENT.We will be continuing our unit on farms and farm life. We will be reading different farm books and responding by matching sounds and animals, animals and their babies, making animal riddles, and making farm job books. In centers, we will continue discussing types of farms and writing about why they are important. Our culminating activity will be a trip to Sunrock Farm.
- Theme-Science/Social Studies:
- Math:
This week we will continue subtraction by talking about problem solving and practicing some of our strategies from our toolbox. We will also work on relating addition to subtraction.
- Religion:
We will be talking about Mary and the Rosary in honor of May. We will pray the rosary and talk about the prayers.***Review the Glory Be, Our Father, and practice the Hail Mary and Guardian Angel prayer. You could use a dice and have a prayer assigned to each number. When it is rolled, you can say that prayer.

K2 MAY NEWSLETTER
Journal:
The children are doing an awesome job writing words on their own to go with their illustrations. We are so proud of them!Language Arts: We are finished with all of the letters in the alphabet and will be reviewing for the rest of the year.
Math: We will finish up the year with geometry, fractions and greater numbers.
Religion: Our last unit discusses how God’s love teaches us to love.
Social Studies/Science: We learned about the Kentucky Derby. We will also be learning about the farm.

Sunrock Farm (We will be at school from 8:00-2:00)May 20: Private Transportation
May 26: No School
May 28: Olympic Day, 10:15-11:15
June 4: Kindergarten Closing Program (We will come to school at 11:00
and dismiss after the program is over.
June 5: Picnic lunch with our 5th grade buddies from 11:00-12:00
June 6: Last day of school, we will come to school at 7:00 and dismiss at
10:30 with the whole school.
